Shaker Box Production
Shaker boxes are made by hand using traditional methods used by the Shakers for more than 200 years.
Boxes are produced in cherry and maple as standard but other woods, such as walnut, mahogany, and coloured woods can be supplied by special order.
Firstly the swallow tails are cut into the ends of the bands, then the bands are bent round oval moulds and fastened with copper tacks which are peened over on the inside. The lid bands are moulded around its own box for a precise fit.
Boxes are then sanded and finished as required.
Boxes should be regularly cared for using a good quality furniture wax.
